my experience working in the library at the lutheran school is bound to look good on my resume’, but the best part has been meeting and getting to know this young lady, ann. you may remember her as Wink’s godmother. she is a volleyball coach and spanish teacher in addition to being the library lady. i hope our friendship lasts and grows!

this is luann oglesby bird, my friend since 7th grade. she’s in town visiting her parents, howard and doris, on the way from her home in portland, oregon to toledo, ohio with daughter, morgan. i don’t know how to tell you how i feel about her, so i’ll borrow some words:

some other folks might be a littler bit taller than i am, bigger & stronger, too.
but none of them will ever love you the way i do–
and as the years go by, our friendship will never die.
you’re gonna see it’s our destiny:
you’ve got a friend in me………really, i’m serious.

flea market finds

there’s a good flea market up at the 4-h center every season, so husband and i headed up there first thing saturday morning. we wandered through the swine barn, the goat barn, the cattle barn, shivering in the cold. i don’t know if it was the weather or my karma, but i saw tons of desirable junk. being the conservative spender that i am, i came home with nothing and looked around the house to see if i really “needed” the things i’d seen. i headed back today at the end of the show and ran through and bought several essential items. everybody knows i need another liquor decanter–and i didn’t have one with a pump! price: $10.

there’s a special brother down in texas who stays in touch with us via internet or telephone, therefore we have not got his family’s address— this may be because he doesn’t actually want us to know where he lives (!). it’s true he rarely makes appearances in these parts (with good reason), but, hey, y’all are always welcome, always remembered and considered Real Family (even though you’re invisible). Special word to rightmoon fans: she will be singing!!! if any other friends would like to join us in this wonderful celebration, come on! but let me know, so we can save you a piece of roast beef.

because preparing for a wedding was not enough stress, boychild and fiancee’ have bought a new house! they will be moving this weekend into this lovely cottage—actually it’s cuter than this, i’ll get better pictures after they move in. i’m pretty excited to do bargain decorating with my new daughter-in-law, husband is downright giddy with the prospect of teaching his son how to maintain roofs, gutters, pipes, garages, etc. and we’re even more thrilled that her family is actually doing the moving!! let all their days in this new home be blessed. amen.

as wink looked out from his new screened-in-world he noticed a beautiful tall tree…. up, up, up– near where the tree held out its arms, was a regular hive of buzzing. “is that a hunny tree, mom? is there hunny in the tree, mom? i’m hungry. i want hunny, mom. can i get the hunny, mom? are bees nice? can i fly up in the trees with the bees? will they give me some hunny?” when wink’s mom told him that bees don’t generally share their honey freely, and that felines rarely fly, he began to wonder…hmm….
