the cabinets are being painted, the countertop is ordered, most of the sanding dust is cleaned up—okay, some of it is cleaned up. everything is off of the walls, including my kit-kat clock, but i invariably turn to look at where it was when i want to know what time it is. isn’t it wierd? you know, you can rearrange your drawers and you’ll still automatically open the old one, staring blankly into it as if you weren’t the one who moved the stuff. or you look at your wrist to see what time it is and get all confused when you realize that you’re not wearing your watch. as my schedule has gotten into groove lately, it’s been smooth sailing to create new habits, but the shadow of the old habits remains as i look for things that are no longer there, a palpable reminder of who i was and what i used to do. it’s good to move on, but if you see me standing staring dazedly into space, don’t worry…i’m just re-learning that outward changes are quick, inward changes follow slowly.
my aunt thelma, 80-something, has survived another hurricane down in cape coral. the report is that they lost power for only a short time and her grandson, chuckie, lost his gate. they had pretty much taken to the mattresses, since charley had managed to really whup them last year, so were happy that wilma went a little south. word is that cuzn ronna is moving back to houston from new zealand (if you’re out there, will you please comment on that, twin cuzn) and that aunts thelma and shirley will be up this way for our thanksgiving festivities. i am so excited about that possibility! we should have a houseful of love to help honor moon and bear. too bad boy-child can’t be with us, but his lovely wife will represent him well—and probably be more helpful! the kitchen is coming along nicely — we have ordered the countertop and sanded the cabinets. it’s time to change the clocks and even though i hate losing daylight, my happy anticipation of the birth-day makes me look forward to winter!
it’s moon&bear’s 6th wedding anniversary today. go back in time with me…doodleoododoodleoodoo….beautiful bride, handsome groom…beaming, doting, loving families envisioning what we now see. marriage ain’t easy, though. 6 years later, the moonbears have been victorious over more challenges than many of us face in a lifetime…and now have the joy and strengthening of adding a child to the equation of 1+1= 1. i felt the Love that night in 1999 and feel the Love growing.
i should also mention that my grand-nephew, ben, who has been featured here on sonnystone several times, turned 3 this week-end. i know i’m not immediate family, but really cherish the time i’ve been able to spend with him. Happy birthday, benjamin andrew rugani!! i love you!
one day about a month ago i was sitting on my ass, mulling over my increasing girth and decreasing ability to move with making whineypuffing sounds and decided enough was enough. i walked the 0.4 mile to Curves and joined. it really seems like the program is not enough to do much, but i’ve known people who got results and it’s basically the old fit-or-fat theory: 30 minutes of sustained cardio, using machines that target specific muscles at least 3 times a week. i admit i watched calories for 2 weeks and during that time became comfortable with the work-out. my first monthly measuring told the story: i lost 5.5 lbs. and 4.5 inches, mostly off waist and abdomen. thing is, i feel better and it’s really become something i look forward to. i’ve met several new people and run into several old acquaintances. the women are all middle-aged and we just talk, talk, talk while we work. the plan now is to increase to 4 days and 40 minutes, lose 5 more pounds and 5 more inches….and have fun while i’m at it.
it started day-before-yesterday: i received about a half-dozen phone calls within 10 minutes that were international-collect. the first was from “june” in the phillipines, the second was mechanical and it went downhill from there. last night we got about a dozen within 10 minutes from mervin, bill, requesting that we accept the charges. the calls were literally right on top of each other, all through sprint, and varied from a “real” operator or a machine. i finally took the phone off the hook and got some sleep. this morning when husband got up, he replaced the phone and they started in again immediately. the “real” operator that husband was yelling at gave us a number to call and he called from work (after taking the phone back off the hook). we had to call our carrier, actually, and they are going to block international collect calls. so, how did my phone number get put on a bathroom wall in the phillipines? fame is such a burden.

i went into a rummaging frenzy today when i happened by a good sale on the way to get coffee. in addition to the above i bought: receiving blankets, bottles, an IU bib, one hat, a bathtub, a rubber ducky and a bath robe. i bought a stroller that turned out to be slightly broken, so will keep it here for what i hope will be frequent visits.
i’ve been off-line, back on, and fixing to go back off. my old computer still has a lot of pictures and music that i want, but it lost its capacity to burn cd’s toward the end of its life. with the help of boy-child i’m going to have those files/folders in my new computer soon; however, we’ve had to re-configure? and hook up and unhook, etc. and it’s really underscored my dependence on my computer. in the meantime, we’ve started the kitchen remodel. i finally got a stove with an oven that works and despite the urge to buy all the betty crocker products and fill the house with the smell of baked goods, i’ve only used the burners. we’ve pulled the cabinet doors off, agreed on colors and ceiling tiles, measured for countertop and we have a date to visit our favorite home centers to buy and special order. i’m off work friday, monday, and tuesday, so i’ll be doing what i can around here…mostly painting, i reckon. it’s wink’s first birthday this month! i think i’ll bake him a cake. hope to be back online again soon to show you our progress.

these are the official stand-ins for the happy couple: dewissa & deric blase’
it has been so exciting to meet my new grandchild for the first time…bumble is a little lop-sided, but emits a most gifted vibe. moon and bear are beaming, with a sort of radiance around them and it’s contagious. we did some maternity shopping, but still waiting for the final verdict regarding gender before starting in on the baby buying. that should be revealed tomorrow. we’re planning a not-your-typical celebration of baby’s arrival at thanksgiving, as that will be the last time before birth that the kids can be in evv. the delivery-doctors don’t want her to be away from nyc after 34th week, so we’ll have to figure out the best way to round up the wagons for the usual extravaganza that we call christmas. i’m not at all excited……
