brown-eyed girl

okay, i badgered the new parents for an open-eyed picture…looks to me like her daddy’s eyes.

haven’t heard from bee, but bear sent these pictures, so it looks like everybody’s at home. what a journey this little native new-yorker has begun….

word from nyc is that the official stats show miss emmy is 19 1/2 inches tall and destined to be a shooting guard, according to her daddy. i spoke with the mama and she is awed and amazed. i must admit i’ve been distracted by one of my patients who is ftd (fixin-to-die) and has required a lot of my attention to keep her comfortable. remember the ben casey opening, “man. woman. birth. death. infinity.” it’s all that, and more. the above picture looks an awful lot like moon’s newborn picture (see post dated 12/20/04), especially the pose. despite the distance, the joy is palpable.

welcome and LOVE to miss emma magnolia mayne jose’! she arrived at 7:59 p.m. weighing in at 7lbs, 15oz, undetermined height, but i think she looks tall, don’t you? love love love…..stay tuned–there’s more!
it was recently pointed out to me by one of my readers that the life described in my blog, (characterized as children-centered, religious, pollyanna-ish) is just a little too-oo happy to be real. of course, most of my readers actually know me and are aware of how my life has rocked along, so you might be wondering, too, why all i write about is kids, church, blessings, and happiness. i do keep a written journal for more personal thoughts, but those entries haven’t been complaining about much, either. so it comes down to the question of why do i write at all? why do i post all these pictures? i’ve wrestled with the question and the only answer i can come up with is because it makes me happy. but i promise, if anything happens worth griping about, you’ll be the first to know.

i headed up to darmstadt in the snow the other night to watch my 5&6th-grade buddies play their last home basketball game—it was the same team they had beaten earlier (their only win), so they handily won. after a stop at the funeral home to visit with friends who lost their mom rather suddenly, i headed over to our church’s lock-in. this was for a group of kids 6th grade through high school and we had 15 of them!! from midnight till 2:30 a.m. we sang all our favorite songs: awesome god, you are holy/prince of peace, he reigns, shout to the north. i brought my guitar and remembered that i should have specialized in the g-chords, but with joe’s help i was jamming along nicely. joe plays bass, too, and we are working on a jazz-y interp of “he’s got the whole world in his hands”. doesn’t he? i’ve learned so much from kids, so far; how much will i be able to soak up from my grandkids? 8 more days.
