no prenup

Filed under: Uncategorized — TheBug @ 10:25 pm

you can bet i’ve been stirred up all day since i heard early this a.m. that sir paul and his uni-dexter wife are going through the big d.  it’s not that it’s such a surprise or upset to me, but what about the final episode of will and grace?  wasn’t it enough that da vinci had to intrude on the finis of a beloved sitcom?  i’m trying to feel a little sorry for sir p, but really….

there’s only 2 more days of after-school-care left and i’m planning a sundae party on monday.  i knew it would happen–as soon as i was sure i was going to have to have to line them all up and slap them, they got real sweet and started actually playing nice.  i won’t miss the every-day-ness of this job, but i’ll sure miss the kids.

i’m going to try to get all of the gardens finished up by sunday, but i’ll have to stay focused.  a friend’s daughter is graduating from the purdue pharmacy school and they’re having a to-do on saturday, so we’ll have to break for that.  can’t miss rummage sales, either, and tomorrow i have to go check on the reitz home garden.  as long as it’s finished before memorial day, we’re cool.

oh, by the way…i made a sincere offer to husband to sign a pre-nup, but he was besotted with me, so that means, by any logical logic, that it’s ALL MINE….

the new me

Filed under: Uncategorized — TheBug @ 7:16 am

don’t you just love this new look?  it seems moon started with her own site and somehow failed to uninstall something or other and so had to start over on her own, but did mine right the first time, so here we are.

mother’s day was a washout weather-wise, but my great kids came through with lots of warming wishes.  the flowers and home-made card i received from boy-child and his delightful wife are beautiful.  moon and magnolia sent a welcome mat with my new theme: camp grandma–visit any season for any reason.  we’re all getting pretty excited about the upcoming baptism of the little one and our first chance to be all together.

just think of all the changes in the last year.  this time last year there was no hint of an emma, boy-child was still single, beaver was still alive, i weighed 15 lbs less….we still owned the taurus, rarely went to darmstadt, didn’t have a rose garden or tivo.  some things don’t change, though, and all the love that we gave out has grown and spread and come back to us.    Praise the Lord!!!!

west frankfort, il is the home of my aunt almeda, mom’s next-to-oldest sister. she lives on the same block where she always has and her daughter janice lives next door. fort meyers, fl is the home of my aunt thelma, mom’s oldest sister, where she lives with her daughter, linda. so it came about that linda and her husband moe were headed up to northern indiana to see their son and were able to bring aunt thelma by to see her sister. aunt thelma notified all of the remaining family members and we all got together at janice’s for a reunion. the good-looking fella pictured above with aunts is their brother, junior, who lives in grayville. of my mom’s 8 siblings, these 3 and aunt shirley (the youngest–she was at michael’s wedding, lives in fl) are the survivors. the sisters are 18 months apart in age and aunt thelma just turned 86. of course, we expect her to be a littler older, but it was striking that us cousins are all granmas and granpas. the day was beautiful and the drive itself through small illinois towns alongside railroad tracks was nostalgic, also.
notice i’m not saying much about derby day—had a great time at ellis with almost 5,000 other people—but did not hit a winner. actually, i did bet on the winner, but i had him boxed with a couple of losers—there’s a sermon there.
ellis still needs a lot of work and i’m going to be emailing the gen.mgr, who is a friend from my dr. k days, about working there this summer. wouldn’t that be fun?
we managed to plant cherry tomatoes in containers, squash, romas and better boys, eggplant, and basil in the ground. finished up the rose garden with gravel and containers of mint and lemon balm. i’m trying two container “gardens” this year and put cilantro, jalapeno and chili peppers in one and a basil, thyme, and oregano in another. they look very pretty, so we’ll see how they perform. i still have 6 bell peppers to plant and mulching to do in the veggie garden. i’ve got tons more to do in the rose and flower gardens. it looks like it’s going to be a good pre-mother’s day week and i’d like to have it all done by sunday so i can sit back and enjoy!

happy beltaine

may day…beltaine…the ancients celebrated the union of the god and the goddess on may 1. this holiday originated the symbols of eggs, baskets, rabbits which were later moved over to easter. the fertility rite conveyed blessing on crops and animals as well as humans, but since it acknowledged sexuality it was denounced by the church. but don’t forget the may-pole! when i was young we always danced around the maypole and made garlands for our hair with flowers. celebrate beltaine with someone you love!

rummage

april officially (for us) begins the regular saturday morning rummage sale tours. this first month has netted us several fifty-cent baskets, a door-mirror, a $5 bicycle for one of the twins, and this beautiful 9-foot church pew. it is solid oak, still has the hymnal holder on the back, and was $20. while $20 is more than i usually spend in a month at sales, this is a find. what with all the garden work, i haven’t gotten around to working on the front porch, but it looks good already, doncha think?
