my daughter has been so busy with her little one that she procrastinated the one-thing-i-asked-her-to-do for the party: invite her aunts on the bass/hefley side. i would really like to see all of them again and am hoping that they are reading this right now!! hello, debra, donnetta, deeann, paula, roxy, mary, lori and sara!! can you come to my 4th of july party? even if only one of you reads this can you ask the others for me? emma will be here and she’s been asking about you all. leave a comment or give me a call.

the clydesdales are in town for the fest and i love to see them. they bring along with them the little donkey who longed to be a budweiser clyde from the 2004 superbowl ads and he adds extra charm.

i’m getting so many positive rsvp’s!!! husband built a fire-pit with surrounding benches made of our local stone and we’ve been draping red-white-and-blue throughout the landscape.
i’ve got some new chewers and have been biting my cheeks, most bothersome. i made it back down to the dentist and now at least i can talk without an “ouch” every other word. it really puts a damper on the old gastronomical enjoyment, but a liquid diet is quite adequate for my personality type.
we’ve got plenty of room here at sonnystone for whoever or whomever, so come on down for the fun!

i’ve been hangin’ around over in henderson this week and discovered their river-side park is quite charming. there is a war memorial for every war the usa was ever in, complete with names of folks in the area who died fighting. even the revolutionary war, which very much impressed me. these types of monuments and fountains and gardens are actually quite common in nyc, spread throughout their parks, but i’d never seen quite such a beautiful fountain in our neck of the woods.
the draw was the w.c. handy blues festival, featuring mostly regional blues guys on an outdoor stage overlooking the river. the bbq contest is one week-end and the music is the next and that, to me, was the problem. this little park (it is tiny) can’t hold the bbq and music at the same time. while there is a beer tent conveniently located near the music stage, there are only 3-4 food booths. music-food-beer or food-beer-music or beer-music-food, if one is missing, the party is a little lame.
the invitations are in the mail. husband is putting in the new a/c upstairs today while i head over to new harmony to see “the search for signs of intelligent life in the universe” with lanasue. it’s rainy and the rose-of-sharon bloomed this morning.

sister and i started a new gig yesterday, working at the nursing homes doing sing-a-long and entertainment. i play the guitar (badly) for gospel songs and sis plays the piano (not badly) for old 40’s-type songs. the folks responded well to us and though they were actually unable to get up and walk out, i don’t think they would have. they sang and enjoyed the music and it was exhilarating for the performers. so on that high we ran from there to the w.c. handy blues festival over in henderson to listen to a lady who’s 85-years-young playing good jazz with a couple of other old codgers on guitar and clarinet. they were wonderful and it was our turn to enjoy. i had sis take this picture so you could see my new hair-do. oh, as you can see, donna and i started playing music together a long time ago—i hope we’ll still be playing when we’re 85+.
somehow i can’t post pictures again. this phenomenon of “forgetting” could cause me some concern if i remembered to worry about it. i have some pictures of the gardens that i know you are all wanting to see, but i guess you’re going to have to come to the party and see them in person.
official notice to all sonnystone acres readers: you are invited to a 4th of july festbash on—you guessed it!–the 4th of july from 3pm till you get sick of us or find someone else to inflict yourself on. while i’m angsting over food and decorating, the big draw is really the visit of my children and grandchild. many of our family and friends have not yet met emma and though they’ve been kept up-to-date with pictures, i’m sure they’ll succumb to her charm when they get to hold her and talk with her. however, that’s not the only reason for the get-together–the underlying motivation is so we’ll all be together.
come on, people, now. smile on your brother. everybody get together, try to love one another right now. well, not exactly right now. the 4th of july. come and be with us.
i’ve been obsessing over the work around here lately and there have been quite a few “interruptions” that made me a little (or maybe a lot) more anxious to git ‘er done. before we left for the baptism we lost a couple of trees during a storm. that’s nothing unusual in the back woods, the part we call solla sollew, but in the frontyard a large Y-shaped tree lost one of its arms. the top limbs were within inches of my front porch, so of course i’m grateful that no damage was done. however, not only does it make one sick to see a beautiful old tree so disfigured, but it also takes a lot of work and time to cut it and move it. here in the house we have installed 4 out of 5 air conditioners, in the nick of time to save me from sweating and griping. best part is–they work! last year during july i made a mental note that i must have a/c by this year and with the imminent arrival of emma it became a real necessity. to add to the mix of trying to get to a stopping point, church has become very demanding of my time. those christians, offer them an inch and they’ll take a mile. a lot of the church stuff has been frustrating–some wasted time and effort, some irritating personalities, and the general atmosphere makes me glad that i’ll be able to take a short break. so that’s what i’ve been doing instead of blogging, but i’m going to try to get back to a daily post, whether i have anything to say or not. so there.
