after a disastrous day of icey-slidey-schoolbus-accidents last week, the schools didn’t dare start on time today, even though the city/county was actually prepared and the temperatures are higher. that’s okay by me, as i love sonnystone in the snow.
a week or so ago, as i was sitting in the dining room looking out toward the woods, i noticed a black swarm down at the bottom of the hill. as i watched, it methodically moved up toward the house. i alerted husband to the phenomena and he got these pictures through the office/library windows as they moved along, up and down until they’d investigated every inch of open grass from solla sollew to the house. when i opened the door and listened i could hear the cadence of the birdsong, as if they were calling a square-dance. grab your partner, do-si-do.
we met lulu’s cousin over at the old homestead and finished up moving the items luann wanted me to store for her. she’s made arrangements for her niece to get the bed and chest on monday and that made that decision for me. i was feeling rather tragic all day yesterday, thinking about how quickly time passes, etc. it was lu’s dad’s 84th birthday. they are my idols for making these decisions for themselves before they’re unable to do so. as i ruminated the subject, i realized that they might need some help at their new place–duh. after church today i went by their new place and found them dragging a wash stand back to the back; i helped with that, but they (of course) refused my offers to help with more. they’ll be fine, though; i’ll be visiting them again.
