sunday evening we all got together at hacienda to celebrate my grandniece alexandra’s 11th birthday and i forgot to take my camera.  bummer.  so all i can do is supplement with some recent pix of her and her auntie ali, who has an-uncounted birthday coming up, also.  i can always remember how old alex is because her birth was very near the time my dad died.  i can still picture my dad holding her (she was one-month-old) just hours before he died.  she has grown into such a beautiful, charming young lady and i love her very much.  i’ll try to get some more pictures next time i see her, which i hope is soon. 

as for my niece allison, it’s hard to get a picture of her without a baby in her arms right now.  i have to credit her for getting me into the school-nursing business (credit or blame?).  she’s a wonderful woman–who knew she would turn out to be so well-behaved?  i remember her being a strawberry shortcake with a mischievous grin, tap-dancing in her sister’s recital costume.  now, with 3 kids of her own, she’s paying for her raising! 

i love both these girls way much.  i’m not feeling too eloquent this morning, but my heart is overflowing into my eyes as i think of how much they mean to me.

we had so much fun at husband’s cousin tammy’s wedding reception last night.  it was held up at the vfw in wadesville and attended by a lot of evansville in-bred westsiders who know how to party.  the music was old-school country (merle, johnny cash, patsy cline, etc.) and some karaoke after enough courage was drunk.  food was good, bar was completely free and we just had a blast.  you know it’s a good crowd when everyone sings along with “you don’t have to call me darlin’, darlin’” (you never even called me by my name) and knows how to do the square dancing to “rocky top”.  when “cat-scratch fever” came on, tammy had a hissy-fit and victor told the dj to stick with some hank–or at least bocephus! 

tammy has always had a bit of a crush on casey and is the only woman i allow to hug and rub all over him—which she did!

aunt orine is looking somewhat less like phil spector, but her breathing is awful (at least she quit smoking) and she had to stop and “puff” while frantically searching for her inhaler as she left.  the music was loud enough to drown out any of her profanities, but she seemed pretty subdued.

finally some spring in our spring…..and just in time for a fun-filled month.

we had our baby shower yesterday and it was rollicking party.  family, food and gifts filled the house, overflowing love filled my heart.  the baby is due may 17, so this is the last time the lafayette couple will be here as a couple.  we attended church this a.m. and they headed back with a car full of presents.  it won’t be long now.  she’s having another shower at her workplace next week-end and they’ll be ready for the arrival of the little one. 

we have birthdays this month:  allison, alexandra, and luann. 

master gardeners starts picking up steam and i’ll be back down at the reitz home, watering and planting on the 14th, ongoing till late fall.  the plant sale is at the 4H this year (not until may) and i’ll be doing various jobs to get ready for that. 

i have a series of periodontal appointments which i am dreading.  tempted to cancel, but afraid my teeth (all 4 of them) will fall out if i do. 

first complete physical in 2 1/2 years tomorrow.  let’s have a pool on what my cholesterol is.  i’ve lost 14 pounds since the last check, so i’m counting on it being down to normal. 

sister and i will be going to see the gaithers on the 25th.  i’m bringing food to the lutheran family counseling service board meeting on the 22nd.  i renew my cpr on the 23rd.  herb and rosalie kuhn are celebrating 70 years of marriage on the 13th and we’ll attend their reception.  the genealogical society has a workshop on the 19th at willard. 

the bluegrass creek dulcimer group is starting some instructional get-togethers and i’m going to get with them and play some music.  i’m meeting my friend, tina, for lunch wednesday and we’ll bond over some chinese food and discuss. 

after such a long, cold lonely winter this month should bring out the sunshine.  amen.
