and the final destination has been chosen for vacation 2008:  biloxi, ms. 

think beach, lighthouses, beach, gardens, beach and new orleans.   the weather folks have assured me that i will have maximum sunshine and it’s a mere 11-hour drive.  they’re having some sort of do-do fricasee or somesuch to do with carnival and schooners.  blue skies….yee-ha! 

in the meantime, wink is not happy about it.  but he’ll be fine and i’ll bring him back some sand.

we’ve spent the last two days catching up with our planting, clearing, mowing, as well as grilling, eating, and drinking.  we’re gearing up for a get-away, leaving toward the end of this week for parts still undecided. 

when i left my office at school friday, it was cleaned and empty, ready for inspection and deep-cleaning.  i have one more day (tomorrow) which is 8th grade class day and will be not-really-working…in fact it will be my closure for the group which has taught me most this year.  in about 3 weeks, i’ll miss them for a minute.  then again, maybe not. 

i’ve lost count of how much, many i’ve planted, but suffice it to say hundreds of plants and now it’s up to them.  the roses have been blooming prolifically and the coreopsis have started their show.   this time of the year is full of hope. 

we’ll be leaving this thursday and will let you know as soon as we decide where we’re going. 

with the grounds looking so great, i keep thinking .”wouldn’t alex, berkeley, ben, briley, noah, emma, sammy and olivia like this?”  let’s plan several great parties!!

here’s the real joke: (i think)

a string goes into a bar and orders a drink.  the bartender says, “we don’t serve strings here”.  the string goes outside, ties himself up, fray-froes up his hair and walks back into the bar.  “hey,” says the bartender, “aren’t you that string i just threw out of here?”  the string says, “no, i’m a frayed knot.”   ta-dum.

olivia loved it.  i can hardly wait to see her again. 

p.s.  i think we can put to rest the discussion of who livvy looks like.  jessica has put together a picture of herself as a baby alongside one of olivia, but when i tried to load it onto the blog, it is too wide and i had to delete it (and everything, actually this is the second time i’ve posted this stuff)  try this, though:  go down to “sleeping beauty” post and click on the picture number just under it; that should take you to jess & mike’s photostream at flickr and if you try, you can see the pictures.  it is amazing that they look so much alike!

born at the right time…….May 9, 2008    1829 ET.  Lafayette, IN

7 lbs. 2 oz.  18 and some odd inches long.  beautiful. 

Her name is Olivia Mayne Casey.

thank the Lord and praise His Name…..all are well and healthy. 

hopefully we’ll be up to meet her in person next week-end.  let’s get a caravan going.
