they’ve called off the solo & ensemble and i will be attending the merriment at PumpItUp (or pumpndump, if you prefer) to celebrate the briley bday! yay!
they haven’t yet called off the solo & ensemble contest, despite all of the reasons they should. i don’t mind, but i would if i were a teacher or student.
husband shoveled the driveway to passable levels for the ’stang, so i’m going ou-ou-out today. not sure where i’m going, but i will go.
still 52,000 folks without power in evansville — also no power in parts of warrick and spencer counties. there’s some 175,000 without power down in kentucky, so you can tell the magnitude of the problem, despite the fact that we have record numbers of people imported from all over to expedite the job.
i wish you could have experienced the way the color of the sunrise shone through the prism of all the ice, scattering and bouncing the rays of light into flakes of warm sunshine. best i could do…..
this hasn’t been so bad, really. i’ve listened to some good music, finished a great book; ordered seeds and seed-starting paraphernalia ; kept the fire going; ran the sweeper; made some peanut butter pine cones for the birds; smoked a million cigarettes; drank 2 bottles of wild vines strawberry zinfandel that casey brought home; snapped 100 or so photos; ate my way through a steady onslaught of munchies.
i’m ready to break, though. surely tomorrow……..
yesterday was ice. last night was snow. it’s a mess. luckily, the state has husband working 12-hour shifts at a normal time, and i have power, more than i can say for sister and ali’s family.
i stocked up on books, magazines to read. i’ve been making endless playlists. searching out seeds and seed-starting equipment. talking with carole. ate most of the food yesterday, so feel bloaty and wobbly today. getting ready to finally change out of the pajamas i put on monday evening.
i WILL be a snowbird someday.
wink inspects the work, originally uploaded by rightbug?.
some of you know that sister was involved in an automobile accident yesterday. i’ve not talked with her enough to give details, but it sounded like she had rib contusions from her airbag, but was otherwise okay. her car was totalled, but hey, we can always get a new car as long as i can still have my old sister.
i ordered some books from b&n last week and despite the holiday expected them to arrive by now. i finished up my first 2 of 2009: PD james “the lighthouse” (an adam dalgliesh mystery): i love PD and this is as good as any dalgliesh mysteries. she’s getting up in age and i’m so impressed that she keeps writing; however, this was from the bargain book table and was written in 2005. also from the bargain book table, “santa fe passage” by jon bauman was a pretty good historical fiction-type. it’s about new mexico when it was under mexican rule and the americans were coming down the santa fe trail (about 1826-1846). since i’m still looking at santa fe, taos, albuqurque for our “big trip”, it was helpful to give me some local color.
i’ve been going everyday after work to evansville lutheran school to practice with some kids for the solo & ensemble contest which will be at UE 1/31. i’m accompanying 5 entries: a trumpet trio, 2 trumpet solos, a flute and a french horn. the french horn needs the most practice, but they’re all pretty good. do you remember that wink came into our home via the media specialist at evansville lutheran? well, i saw her and gave her a hug day before yesterday and told her to check my blog for a picture of Big Wink. Thanks again, Ann, for our little pop-eye.
