here comes the rain again falling on my head like a memory
even though there’s a small mud-hole outside the new arbor, this rain is very welcome. i found the lemon verbena yesterday and also picked up some “kentucky colonel” mint for the juleps.
the field for the derby is now set. unfortunately “win willy” got scratched with an ankle injury (how ironic, if you knew him well). i’ve had the twins pick names; i’ve had carole pick a number. now come on and help me with this, kids. from the odds you’d think it was a 4-horse race, so it’s wide open for a long-shot—especially since the track will be muddy. think about it.
i’ve gotten most of my data entered into the computer and today i’ll try to get to the copy machine to take care of getting the physical forms sent home. also today my bible study group meets for the last time (probably) this season as we’re at the end of our study book. we’ll break for the summer and start a new book in august. i’ll miss my friends, so i’m going to try to have one get-together with them over the summer.
it’s time to change the calendar page and fill in the month of may. olivia will be ONE. school will be DONE. let’s have some FUN. rainy-day smiles are best; try one on.
the rain has brought out the green. the vegetables and recently-added plants are lovin’ it.
it’s time to get ready for the derby. i printed out a sheet of contenders today and had the twins pick their favorite name: mr. hot stuff. i wish i were innocent enough to pick a derby horse quickly and by name only. alas, i MUST look at the trainer, jockey, owner and breeder. i’ve been checking out the field and it continues to change; however, there are a couple who (as usual) are so outstanding that they will have 1:1 odds on derby day. i may have to put a few dollars on those, but i have in mind some also-rans that may just surprise. i’ll be needing help picking a winner, so stay tuned as i prepare you to vote for this year’s champ.
also champion on derby day is the mint julep. the juleps i’ve tasted and mixed have been pretty horrible—we usually just end up sipping the bourbon and fishing the green stuff out of our teeth. this year’s receipt (i’m pretty sure): mint-infused ky bourbon (i’m leaning toward wild turkey) over shaved ice served in sugar-dipped silver cups. i’m thinking lic’s for shaved ice. it will be a greenslushyfrozenjulep. or it will be shots of wild turkey. it’s all good.

i had fun at alex’s birthday party and enjoyed a black bean wet burrito! alex is such a beautiful young lady; i hope she saves enough money to get her ipod.
it’s istep this week and i’m hoping the teachers will keep the kids away from me. with that in mind, i’m going in an hour early every day this week to try to get all the data entry done.

today’s word is: bubbly.
I’m feeling a little bubbly this morning after staying up late last night with cousin kim and her friend, jeff. sadly, they left around 11:30 and i felt like i’d been up all night. geez, we’re old.
it was good to see kim and catch up with a few of her exploits. it’s been so long since we’ve had time to talk and this time was cut short due to her ongoing responsibilities getting her dad buried. the funeral is this morning and he’ll be buried in cowling, a hardly-noticeable group of houses between grayville and mt. carmel. we talked about how charming her dad was—good-looking, too—and what a good dying he had. he really was something and so is kim.
today’s packed full of activities, mostly involving gardening. it’s already sunny and 68degrees, so i’m off to catch some sales.
