national nurses day was wednesday and i received this beautiful ivy geranium from the office staff at school. lovely, eh?

on monday, ticket sales started for garrison keillor’s Summer Love Tour stop in indy, so i called right up to the indy symphony orchestra and bought two. the show is at connor prairie, a bring-your-own-cooler- and-lawnchair-venue that fits us to a T (what is a T?). i am a faithful follower of A Prairie Home Companion (it has taken the place of church on sunday mornings) and have always wanted to be at a live performance. the fact that the show is august 15 (our 30th wedding anniversary) made it quite apparent that it was Meant To Be. verrry romantic…

9 more days of school….i’m starting to feel the time speed up and need to get in all my reports and such. the kids are squirrel-y, but so am i. i am always a little sad when the 8th graders move on…..this group actually started 6th grade when i started the job, so i’m especially attached. but i forget about them very quickly, too, i’ve noticed…..about a day is all it takes!!

i’ve got tickets to go visit emma and her folks 6/5 to 6/10…YAY!! do you realize that is only 3 weeks??? i can hardly wait.

Sunday was Olivia’s second birthday and we partied with the Usual Suspects. After a hearty meal of chicken and taters, Olivia opened (sort of) her presents and we all headed out to the porch for cupcakes…………..

the attack of the disasters this week has been knee-buckling: oil spills, bombers, riots, and floods. Especially floods: i’m sick thinking about the folks down in nashville. i get the vision of robert’s boot walking on the water…the Elvis mannequin that sits up on the roofs…did he get rescued??? as soon as they’re ready, i’ll check it out.

the problem with sleeping with the tv on is that you might actually wake up around midnight to some “breaking news” (hopefully not of the nancy-grace-type). last night i went to bed early, but woke up to the US attorney general announcing the capture of this dude who failed to blow up times square (thank-you, lord). all night long i slept fitfully, dreaming that elliot stabler and i were on the job–really. i would wake up and think, geez, i’m dreaming law and order, but go right back to the same dream.

anyway, ya’ll know: i love new york. i hate that it is a target, the trophy that these killers covet. i am so glad that they got to these people (i don’t believe he’s a “lone wolf”) and that everyone is safe, as well. and if you ever get the chance, visit NYC. it’s like nothing you’ve ever experienced.
